While a holiday move may not be ideal, sometimes it’s unavoidable. Whatever the reason may be, there are certain actions that you can take to make moving during the Holidays much easier on yourself and your family.
1. Find a moving company you can rely on
Moving during the Holiday season can be very stressful and seem nearly impossible. After all, you already have a to-do list a mile long…not including the move itself! There is perhaps no better investment of your time and money than in a reputable moving company.
Why consider a moving company for a holiday move? A couple of reasons – (a) Some moving companies (including Few Moves) will do the packing for you and they have all the proper equipment to do so safely and efficiently (b) it gives you back some of that precious time with your family, and (c) it’s much less stressful.

It will definitely be worth your time to do some research before choosing a company, however. This may include asking for a reference, comparing customer reviews, and ensuring the company is properly licensed and insured, etc.
2. Manage your schedule
If you have a family that you usually visit during the Holiday, make them aware of your move ASAP. Consider your other family members and friends that may need to know what’s going on during this time and let them know too. This includes contacting family members who mail your gifts to ensure that they are sent and received at the right time and place.
Also consider the departure and arrival locations and dates; along with any events going on that may impede or delay your move in any way. Make the appropriate scheduling adjustments, as necessary.

3. Continually check the weather and traffic
This one is a given, especially if you live in an area susceptible to unpredictable weather such as snowstorms and blizzards (i.e. the Northeast, Midwest and Northwest). At The Weather Channel online (www.weather.com), you can find the 10-day weather forecast of anywhere in the U.S.
In addition to often troublesome and unpredictable weather during the Holidays, there is often troublesome and unpredictable traffic. For a short drive, check traffic the day of the move and make any necessary preparations.
